Our Classes
School Life
To allow for all-round development, students at Beacon School are placed in class according to their age at the beginning of the academic year. Within the class, differing levels of assessment provide differentiated learning. Our youngest class is ‘Playgroup’ into which we admit girls from the age of two and a half years and boys from the age of two years, eight months; or as soon as they are toilet trained.
We run an Enhanced Curriculum at the Preschool and Primary levels. At the Secondary level, we run the Cambridge International Curriculum (https://www.cambridgeinternational.org). Our students therefore take the Cambridge Checkpoint exams at the end of Year 9; the Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) at the end of Year 11; and the Cambridge A-Levels at the end of Year 13. We are also running Junior High 2 and 3 of the local BECE curriculum.
Our maximum class size is 25 pupils. In lower classes, the class teacher is helped by a full-time teaching assistant.

Our Curriculum
School Life
The Beacon Enhanced Curriculum combines the strengths of the British National Curriculum, the Ghana Education Service Curriculum, the Cambridge International Curriculum and the Montessori Curriculum. Our approach to learning is exciting, interactive and analytical.
- Preschool
With a large variety of educational resources and games at their disposal, teachers in our preschool adopt a more sensorial, creative approach to learning, with both focused times with the teacher and opportunities for independent learning.
- Early Research Skills
Independent Research Projects – from Year 4, all children undertake an independent research project. Children often choose the research topics themselves. The project is presented as an extended written assignment, followed by an oral presentation to a wider group.
