Our Classes

School Life

Beacon School currently runs classes from Play Group to Year 11. Plans are in place to offer classes to Year 13 (A’ level students only) once appropriate facilities have been developed.

Beacon School is a Cambridge International School, (www.cambridgeinternational.org) offering the Cambridge Checkpoint exam at the end of Year 9 and the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) at the end of Year 11. We also offer the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) at the end of Junior High 3. At the end of Year 6 students are required to choose between the Cambridge International programme or the local BECE curriculum. Boarding facilities are available for Secondary students only.

Maximum class size is 25 pupils. In lower classes, the class teacher is helped by a full-time teaching assistant. Class placement is dependent on a child’s age, not on academic ability. Within the class, differing levels of assessment provide differentiated learning.

Our Curriculum

School Life

Beacon School is a private, international, Christian basic school registered under Ghana Education Service of the Ministry of Education. We offer a combination of the Ghana Education Service curriculum and the English National Curriculum. Our teachers are qualified Montessori practitioners.

  • Preschool

With a large variety of educational resources and games at their disposal, teachers in our preschool adopt a more sensorial, creative approach to learning, with both focused times with the teacher and opportunities for independent learning.

  • Early Research Skills

Independent Research Projects – from Year 4, all children undertake an independent research project.
Children often choose the research topics themselves. The project is presented as an extended written assignment, followed by an oral presentation to a wider group.
